About

Hi. I'm a writer and thru-hiker whose nonfiction lives at the intersection of geography, race, and the environment. I also enjoy writing about music and film/television, particularly about sound design. Chances are you're here because you read about me climbing a mountain somewhere, which is good, since I've spent the last seven years researching and writing In Open Country, a hybrid memoir about the invention of nature.

My essays have been anthologized in several volumes of Best American Travel Writing, as well as in Black Futures (2020) and The Good Immigrant: 26 Writers Reflect on America (2019). As a presenter, I've spoken at universities and conferences across the country and moderated dozens of literary readings in New York City and the Bay Area. In 2020, I taught at the Mendocino Coast Writers' Conference.

I'm currently available for paid freelancing and consulting work, as well as guest lecturing and speaking opportunities. Say hello using the contact form below.
